Weldon Loyd Craven, 85, of Seagrove, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. The funeral will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Pastor Alton Burrow and Dr. Ron Chaney presiding. Interment, with military honors, will follow the service. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Joyce-Brady Chapel.
Weldon was born in Moore County on June 20, 1937 to Weldon Braxton Craven and Pearl Anne Coltrane Craven. He was a graduate of Campbell University and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He served as a principal at Brower Elementary and Seagrove School for a total of fifteen years. He loved sports, especially golf. Weldon was a huge UNC fan and adored supporting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in sports and all of their activities.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Anne Craven.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nora Parker Craven, of the home; children, Gloria C. Williams of the home, Janet C. King (Gary), of Seagrove and Weldon Craven II (Lisa), of Asheboro; brother, Kelly Craven (Pam), of Bennett; grandchildren, Lane Sapp (Chris), of Seagrove, Natalie Poe (Brian), of Seagrove, Dustin King (Leah), of Seagrove and Lindsay Helminen, of Asheboro; great-grandchildren, Logan Richardson, David Sapp, Reece Poe, Kynleigh Poe, Luke Kivett, Kendall Kivett and Maddie Helminen and a host of family and friends.
