Lena Jones

Lena Craven Jones, 88, of Bennett passed away on March 24, 2021 at Moore Regional Hospital. The funeral service will be held at Bennett Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021 with Rev. Tim Strider, Rev. Dr. Jason Whitehurst and John Phillips presiding. The body will lie in state at Joyce-Brady Chapel on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. for those who wish to sign the register. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Lena was born in Randolph County on April 16, 1932 to Claudie and Callie Saunders Craven. She was a faithful member of Bennett Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in the Jolly Elders. She worked at the John Plant Company for several years. Her favorite job was keeping children in her home. She loved those kids and they loved her right back. She was a true sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cardinals and UNC. She spent many weekends either traveling or listening to Tulane Baseball games. She made many friends along the way and was truly a part of the Tulane family. She was “MeMaw” to her extended family. Lena loved the Lord, her family, her church and her community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Eldon Jones; daughter, Renee´ Jones May and grandson, Christopher Lee Wallace.

Lena is survived by her sons, Rick Jones (Gina), of Wilmington, Jeff Jones (Angela), of Sanford, and Buddy Jones (Judith) of Thomasville; grandchildren, Chase Jones (Katrina), Jacob Jones (Paige), Kyle Jones, step-grandchildren, Jennifer May, Ashley Tipton (Chis) and Jimmy Wilson; great-grandchildren, Rustan Wallace and Sullivan Jones; step-great-grandchildren, Cayleigh Agee, Jordan Tipton, Harper Tipton, Hunter Wilson and Kynlee Wilson and a host of family and friends.
