Jimmy Ray Upchurch, 83, of Ramseur, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Randolph Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at High Falls UMC with Rev. Tom Hallberg and Rev. Tim Strider presiding. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

Jimmy was born in Moore County on June 14, 1938 to Allie Caviness Upchurch and William Glenn Upchurch. He was a member of High Falls UMC  and served in the US Navy. He was a poultry farmer and loved his chickens. He was co-owner of Upchurch Groceries and was an Entrepreneur. He loved Deep River and his youthful life in High Falls. Jimmy enjoyed black & white movies and all sports, especially baseball. He was known for his loyalty and forgiving heart.  He would give you the shirt off of his back. He adored his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Taylor Upchurch; second wife, Evelyn Thompson Upchurch; son, Parker Taylor; brother, Donald Upchurch and grandsons, Jon Langford and Trevor Taylor; nephew Glenn Upchurch; nieces, Karen Upchurch and Allie Upchurch.

Jimmy is survived by his children, Lynne Saunders (Andrew), of Wilmington, Carol Albright (Don), of Mt. Gilead, Selena McDonald (R.B.), of Asheboro, Jeff Hoover (Sandy), of Tennessee, Dean Upchurch, of Southmont, and Susan Wenda (Edward), of Asheboro; brother, Rick Upchurch (Sherry), of Coleridge; grandchildren, Shannon Koch, Shelly Parker, Lisa Phillips, Jennifer Mabe, Rebecca Saunders, Samantha Watson, Ryan Hoover, Ashley Taylor, Whitney Taylor, Hannah Wenda, J.D. Upchurch, Tyler Wenda, Harper Wenda, and Jeffrey Wenda; great-grandchildren, A.J. Ward, Chase Koch, Kailey Mabe, Peyton Koch, Mya Gillis, Brianna Mabe, Seth Parker, Ayden Taylor,Sadie Mabe, Lydia Mabe, Brynn Watson, Maddie Watson, Paisley Phillips,Tucker Watson; nephews Seymore Phillips, Joseph Upchurch, John Upchurch, Richard Upchurch, Mason Phillips, Zachary Vestal, and Brayden Beasley; nieces, Kim Beck, Alexanderia Upchurch, April Culberson, Connie McDermott, Samantha Phillips and Kyley Beasley; a special pet dog Muffin and a host of extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Douglas Shultz, Amy Moon, Randolph Health, The Palliative team of Hospice of the Piedmont and especially Donna Hedgecock and Mya Gillis for their care and compassion.
