Thurman O. Shelton, 86, passed away Monday, August 6, 2018, at his home. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, from 6:00-8:00pm at Beulah Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will take place at 2:00pm Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church with grandson, Evangelist Travis Shelton and Reverend Dr. Curtis Barbery presiding. A burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
Thurman was born March 6, 1932, in Randolph County to the late Clarence Otis Shelton and Clara Powers Shelton. He was a lifelong resident of Bennett, NC and was a Foreman with Golden Poultry. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. He enjoyed NASCAR Racing, dirt track racing, and farming. He especially loved his family and his fur baby “Sadie”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles; and wife Betty Grace Garner Shelton in 2000.; 3 grandchildren, Christine, Christa, and Christopher McNeill.
Survivors include wife of 16 years, Royalene S. Shelton of the home; children, Donald Shelton and Gloria of Bennett, NC, Clara McNeill and Michael of Bennett, NC, Catherine Shelton of Bennett, NC, Tommy Shelton of Bennett, NC, David Shelton and Amy of Bennett, NC, Jeremy Shelton of Bennett, NC, Tammy Matthews and Brent of High Falls, NC, Victor Moore and Chyrie of High Falls, NC,; 1 sister, Elizabeth Acqulin of Asheboro, NC.; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
