Richard Thomas Brown, 86, of Pittsboro, passed away on Tuesday, October 06, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, with Pastor Don Edwards presiding. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 1 to 2:45 p.m., prior to the service. Following the service, the family will gather in the fellowship hall. Joyce Brady Chapel will be open from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8th for friends to sign the register.

Richard was born in Randolph County on May 9, 1940, to Clyde and Daisy Coble Brown. He was a lifetime member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Bennett, where he served on the cemetery committee and pitched in with special projects. Richard proudly served our country in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Richard loved wearing his uniform and would often wear it to show his children and grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Daisy Brown; his son, Justin Thomas Brown; his daughter-in-law, Teressa Jordan Brown; his brothers, Clyde Jr., Frank, Vernon, and Ernest; his sister, Louise Brown Womble; and his granddaughter, Amanda Willems.

He is survived by his wife of 48 wonderful years, Anne Auman Brown, of the home; his daughters, Holly Brown Hussey (Jonathan) of Holden Beach and Debbie Leviner Mullis of Winston-Salem; and his sons, Billy Leviner (Sheila) of Chapel Hill, John Leviner (Lisa) of Boonville, and Andy Leviner (Lisa) of Chapel Hill; brothers, Bobby Brown (Sherry) of Bennett, Jimmy Brown (Pam) of Raleigh. In addition, Richard was especially proud to be Pawpaw to Chris, Trent (Amanda), Curtis, Tyler (Amy), Jeremy, Cody, Dylan, Adam (Lauren), Amber (Wyatt), Catherine (Troy), Chasity, Chase, Josh, Emma, Jacob (Rylie), Sara (William), Addison, Jordan (Katie), Jarrett (Alexis), Ashley, Jax, Kimi, and Paul. Richard was a very blessed man; in addition to his grandchildren, he was also Pawpaw to his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Goldie, Anna, Beau, Liam, Luna, Ellie, Layla, Oaklyn, Max, Declan, Kolson, Wrenley, Carter, and Andie, several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Gentiva Hospice of Sanford and Comfort Care LLC for the compassionate and attentive care they provided Richard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church of Bennett Cemetery Fund as well as Gentiva Hospice of Sanford.
