Marie Phillips Barber

Jessie “Marie” Neal Phillips Barber, 93, of Bear Creek, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Peak Resources/Pinelake in Carthage. The graveside service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at High Falls Wesleyan Church with Chaplain Rae Ferrarini presiding. Joyce-Brady Chapel will be open from 1:00-5:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 for friends to sign the register.

Marie was born in Moore County on April 30, 1933 to Willis and Jessie Neal. She was a member of Fair Promise UMC. She retired from Kellwood where she was a pairing inspector. Marie liked to travel and especially enjoyed her trip to Europe. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and working in her flower garden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Penn Phillips and Roy Lee Barber and her sisters, Lois Oldham, Ann Thomas, Bea Beal and Bobbie Phillips.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Rebecca P. Gaines (Buck), of Bear Creek; son, Richard Wayne Phillips (Marsha), of Goldston; step-daughter, Sandra Hunnings (Larry), of New Bern; grandchildren, Julianna, Jason, Rachel and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Grant, Reese, Lane, Noah and Caleb and a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
