High Falls: John "Big Bud" Maness of High Falls passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013, at FirstHealth in Pinehurst. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at High Falls Friends Meeting with the Rev. Ben Hurley and Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Mr. Maness was a Moore County native and was born May 14, 1926. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Shields Maness; parents, John Boyd Maness and Mattie Lee Maness; brothers, Cecil and Brackman Maness; and sister, Nannie Maness Chisholm.

Mr. Maness was a retired fixer from Burlington Industries in Ramseur. He was an Army veteran where he served in World War II. Mr. Maness was a member and former elder of High Falls Friends Meeting. All who knew him well knew that he was patriotic and loved working in his yard. He also loved the Lord, his church, and his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Laine Maness Williams and her husband, Kenneth of High Falls; brother, Lee "Little Bud" Maness of High Falls; granddaughter, Shandy Williams Dunlap and her husband, Quint of Robbins; and great-grandson, Holden Dunlap.

The family will receive friends at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham Street, Bennett, NC 27208 from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 and other times at his home. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at High Falls Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 62, High Falls, NC 27259. You may offer online condolences at www.joycebradychapel.com.
