Jearline Hancock Brown, 92, of Bennett, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Pastor Jimmy Jones and Pastor Don Edwards presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:45-1:45 pm and return to the fellowship hall following the committal. Joyce-Brady Chapel will be open from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 for friends to sign the register. Friends are welcome to visit the family at her home and will formally gather on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Jearline was born on February 28, 1934 to Graham and Mossie Wilson Hancock. She was on the 1952 Goldston High School State Championship basketball team. She was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church for 70 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Women’s Fellowship, a faithful member of the choir with a beautiful alto voice. Jearline retired from Glendale Hosiery and later worked as a substitute teacher for Chatham County Schools. She loved shopping and going to thrift stores and antique shops. She enjoyed going on trips with her family. Jearline loved her family and adored her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jearline was preceded in death by her husband, J.H. “Red” Brown; sisters, Ruby Hammer, Beulah Hammer, Augusta “Gus” Gilliland and Linda Jones; brothers, Roy Hancock and Raeford Hancock.
Jearline is survived by her daughters, Rita B. Holt (Steve), of Bear Creek and Angie B. Fields (Buddy), of Goldston; grandchildren, Beth Caviness (Jacob), Joshua Holt (Jean), and Amber Fields; great-grandchildren, Reid Caviness, Anna Claire Caviness, Sadie Holt and Miller Brown Holt; sister, Joyce Headen (Tommy), of Siler City; sister-in-law, Mary Etta Brown, of Siler City; brother-in-law, Jimmy Jones, of Pleasant Garden and a host of family and friends.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Gloria Josey, Peggy Beavers, Nancy Dunn, Dee Dee Moffitt, and Laura Gibbons for their loving care and compassion.
