James “Jimmy” Harding Kennedy, 78, of Carthage, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 at FirstHealth Hospice House. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Putnam Friends Church with Pastor Jammie Cockman presiding. The body will lie in repose from 1:00-1:45 p.m. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the committal service.
Jimmy was born in Moore County on September 22, 1945 to Gleason Harding Kennedy and Nellie Maness Kennedy. He worked as a catcher and supervisor in the poultry industry. He enjoyed antique shopping, gospel music and spending time with his family and friends. Jimmy loved life and was known for making people laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samantha Jo Powers.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca Cockman Kennedy, of the home; children, Vicky Akers (Robert), of Carthage, Nancy Williams (Johnnie), of Eagle Springs, Donna Garner (Brad Murphy), of Glendon and Ryan Garner (Kim), of Robbins; sisters, Tammie Garner, of Carthage and Linda Cole, of Carthage; brother, Joe Romero, of Carthage; grandchildren, Amber, Stephanie, Brooke, Jeremy, Joseph, Sarah, Makayla and Van; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Gracie, Allie, Mady, Isaac, Evan, Kennedy, Ava and one soon to be, Jackson and a host of family and friends.
