Wade Herman “Boop” Phillips, 92, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice Home in Pittsboro. The graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church, in Bennett, where he was a member, with Rev. George Townsend and Pastor Edwin Moore presiding. Joyce-Brady Chapel will be open on Friday from 12:00 pm-5:00 pm for those wishing to pay their respects.
Herman was born in Chatham County on September 26, 1928 to Mattie P. and Ernest C. Phillips. He served in the U.S. Navy and later worked as a USDA poultry inspector for over 30 years. After retirement, he worked at Brookwood Farms. Herman had a beautiful tenor voice and was the choir director and taught Adult Sunday School at Fall Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and cherished his family and the time he spent with them.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his son, Gerry Phillips; grandchildren, Gregory A. Phillips, Crystal L. Phillips and Jason Baldwin; son-in-law, Earl Baldwin; sisters, Stella Sullivan Campbell, Lessie Russell, and Lillian Nall; and brother, Roland Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lois Phillips of the home, daughter, Cheryl Phillips Baldwin, of Goldston; daughter-in-law, Sandy Phillips, of Bennett; granddaughters, Heather Doucette (Arthur), and Tina Morgan (Chad); great-grandchildren, Gemma, Kenzie Beth, Aidan, Cameron, Hadley Grace, and Carson, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
