Mr. George Calvin Phillips, 90, of Bennett, N.C., died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at his home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. Tuesday evening at Joyce – Brady Funeral Home in Bennett, N.C. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00p.m. Wednesday (11/9/2016) at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Chaney and Rev. Scott Allmon presiding. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery, with Military Honors provided by The Randolph County Honor Guard.

Calvin was born in Chatham County, N.C. in 1926, son of the late George Robert Phillips and Tamar Lee Scott Phillips. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1943 and served proudly in the U.S. Army with the 18 th Infantry Regiment, earning the rank of Tech 5. After his return home, he began poultry and cattle farming and cutting silage for a dairy farm part-time; a career that spanned 50 plus years. In 1950, he married Peggy Powers sharing 66 years of marriage and raising their daughters. He loved Nascar Racing and Ford automobiles and his favorite place to eat was The “Chicken Hut” in Robbins. He was the oldest male member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, where he was a lifetime member. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister and his Son-In-Law, Charles Hackney.

He is survived by his wife Peggy P. Phillips of the home, his daughters, Pat Hackney of Bennett, N.C. and Pam Craven and husband Kelly also of Bennett, N.C., Four grandchildren, Tony Hackney and wife Tara of Robbins, N.C., Jerry Hackney of Bennett, N.C., Drew Hackney and wife Maggie of Siler City, N.C. and Kyla Craven of Bennett, N.C., Three Great-grandchildren, Jacy Hackney and Finnlie Hackney and Karver Dayde Hackney(born today in Pinehurst, N.C.). Adopted grandsons include Yianni and Kosta Kakouras and extended family members are Thomas Calvin Allen, Lynn Allen and Anna Allen.
