An amazing woman and a blessing to everyone she encountered, Ellen’s faith in Jesus Christ served as a testament to God’s love in action and was expressed through her selfless commitment to others. She was a devoted wife of 62 years, mother and grandmother. The encouraging words that she offered to her family and friends will continue to provide a lifetime of precious memories. All of her grandchildren and great-children will forever remember being cradled in her loving arms while being rocked to sleep in that squeaky rocking chair. As a child care provider and toddler Sunday School teacher for over 30 years, she touched the lives of numerous children in the community.
Her nurturing spirit shone through her love of gardening. One of her greatest passions, genealogy, was displayed through countless hours of research and conversations to learn more about her family heritage. She visited numerous cemeteries and Register of Deeds’ Offices to complete the story of her family lineage. People from all over relied on her talents and expertise to discover more about ancestry. As an active member of The Winnie Davis Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the meetings for fact-finding and fellowship were always a highlight. She enjoyed participating in the Chatham County Historical Association and the Moore County Genealogical Society.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, from 6-9 PM at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham St., Bennett, NC 27208 and other times at the home of her son, Dale, 21510 NC Hwy 902, Bennett, NC.
