Donald Ray Maness, 83, of Siler City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on January 6, 1943, Donald was raised in High Falls, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Mack Maness and Mamie Maness and was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbert Maness.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army, a role that remained one of the greatest sources of pride throughout his life. Being a veteran was an important part of who he was, and he carried a deep love and respect for his country throughout his 83 years.
A skilled master upholsterer and supervisor, Donald was known for his craftsmanship, strong work ethic, and dedication to doing a job right. He took pride in his work and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Donald found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing, took great pride in keeping his yard looking its best, and rarely missed an opportunity to enjoy breakfast at the local café with friends and familiar faces. He appreciated the simple blessings of life and the people who shared them with him.
While Donald was proud of his work and military service, nothing mattered more to him than his family. He loved his wife, Jane, with all his heart, was a devoted father to his daughter, Laurin, and cherished his role as "Big Daddy" to his grandchildren. Known to Jackson and Charlotte as Big Daddy, he took immense pride in them and found great joy in watching them grow. They brought him endless joy, and few things made him happier than talking about them and celebrating their accomplishments. Though often a man of few words, there was never any doubt about how deeply he loved his family.
Donald was a faithful member of Fall Creek Baptist Church and found strength and comfort in his faith throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane McLaurin Maness; his daughter, Laurin Maness Lance and husband, Nathan Lance, of Inman, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Jackson Gray Councilman of Columbia, South Carolina, and Charlotte Jane Boyd of Inman, South Carolina; and his brothers, Michael Maness of Rockingham, North Carolina, and Dale Maness and wife, Lisa, of High Falls, North Carolina.
Donald will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering patriotism, dedication to his family, and the kindness he showed to those around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the memories they shared and in the legacy of love, hard work, and devotion he leaves behind.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team whose compassionate care, guidance, and support allowed Donald to spend his final days peacefully at home, surrounded by those he loved most. Their kindness during this difficult time will never be forgotten.
