Clara Jean Hussey

Clara Jean Smith Hussey, 87, of Robbins, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at Peak Resources/Pinelake in Carthage. The graveside service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2026 at Needham’s Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Kidd presiding. Friends may sign the register on Thursday afternoon from 1:00-5:00 pm. Per request of the family, no public viewing will be held.

Clara Jean was born in Chatham County on March 31, 1939 to John and Wilma Kidd Smith. She was a member of Needham’s Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker. In her younger years, she worked in the cafeteria at North Moore High School and at Southern Supreme. She loved kids and enjoyed babysitting them. Clara Jean liked quilting and puzzles. She was a very good cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren and cherished each moment with them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Jabo” Hussey; son, Tommy Edward Hussey; sisters, Betty Ann Murray and Julia Frances Maness and brothers, Clarence Lee (Bill) Smith, Jimmy Joe Smith and Ronnie Evans Smith.

Clara Jean is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hinson (Al); daughter-in-law, Donna Hussey; grandchildren, Jeremiah Hussey (Heather), Johnny “Boomer” Hussey, Daniel Phillips (Erika), Mark Phillips (Brittany) and Jessica Davis (Steven); thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ruth Powers and Carol Lucille Hicks; brother, Johnny Albert Smith; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to Needham’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 359 Needham’s Grove Rd., Seagrove, NC 27341.
