Charles Russell Gatlin

Mr. Charles Gatlin, 91, of Bennett, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Genesis Healthcare-Siler City Center.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion UMC, in Bennett with Rev. Ted Beane officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

Charles was born on April 28, 1931 to the late William Thomas Gatlin and Emma Rosa Deaton Gatlin. He married Mary Joyce Purvis on December 31, 1957. He was retired from Ram-Tex. He enjoyed fishing, farming, watching westerns on TV and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Joyce Purvis Gatlin; sisters, Clara Brewer (Lacy), Pauline Bowman (Howard) and Nellie Freeman (Wesley); brothers, Ralph Gatlin (Edna), Franklin Gatlin, Lester Gatlin (Clara) Lonnie Gatlin and Ernest Gatlin.

Charles is survived by his sons, Delmar Gatlin and Jeffery Gatlin; sisters-in-law, Ruth Barker, Louise Gatlin, Mary Gatlin, Esther Maness (Reece) and Nancy Purvis and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Flowers are accepted or  memorials may be made to Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery Fund, 8616 Curtis Powers Rd., Bennett, NC 27208.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Genesis Healthcare-Siler City Center and the nurses and staff at Liberty Home Care and Hospice for the care and compassion they gave to Charles during his time of need.
