Mr. Billy Green Phipps, 84, of Bennett, N.C., died Friday, January 22, 2016 at U.N.C. Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Fall Creek Baptist Church in Bennett, with Rev. Scott Allmon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by The Randolph County Honor Guard.

He was born in Durham County, N.C. on September 20, 1931, son of the late Lonnie and Lois Pendergrast Phipps. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Throughout his life he loved history and aviation, old movies and T.V. comedies. Billy loved playing and singing Country and Bluegrass music, but his favorite was Gospel. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke; the cornier, the better. In addition to his parents and sister Nellie Fish, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruth P. Phipps, in 2015.

He is survived by his children, Wanda O’Neal and husband Ken of Durham, William Phipps and wife Edie of Louisburg, Martha Phipps of Hillsborough, Elizabeth Foster and husband Jeff of Leasburg and Robert Phipps and Wendy also of Hillsborough, One brother, Young Phipps of Durham.

Five grandchildren, Nikki O’Neal, Jessica Frega, Aaron Moran, Sarah Alford and Payton Foster, Three great-grandchildren, Sebastian Alford, Jasper Alford and Cole O’Neal-Roberson and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
