Mr. Howard Lunsford O'Briant, 97, of Siler City, N.C. died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro. The family will recieve friends Saturday, November 11th from 6-8p.m. at Joyce - Brady Chapel in Bennett. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12th 2017 at Kildee Wesleyan Church in Ramseur with Rev. Roger Riffe presiding. Burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Howard was born in Randolph County in 1920, son of the late Vivian G. O'Briant and Kizzie Belle Stevenson O'Briant. Howard served in the U.S. Army in World War II with the 17th Field Artillery Batallion. He earned 7 Bronze Service Stars after serving in Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. After the war ended he returned home and worked as a machine operator in the textile industry prior to retiring after 32 years of service with Burlington Industries. Known to all as a man both good and kind, working hard to raise his family that he cherished so much. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mildred L. O'Briant, brothers Winfred and Paul, sisters Dorothy and Pauline, and one great granchild Mason Phillips. He is survived by his daughter Ava O. Bayles and husband Robert of Siler City, son Larry O'Briant and friend Angela Deaton also of Siler City. Five grandchildren Mike O'Briant, Wendy Hinshaw, Kimberly Haithcox, Bobby Lawson, and Angela Phillips. Nine great-grandchildren Wayne Haithcox, Jessica Pirdy, Marie Ives, Brittany Lawson, Will O'Briant, Johnathan Lawson, Cody Sorrell, Robin Mashburn, Jacob Hinshaw and Mia Phillips. One great-great-grandchild Bradley Mason, and host of family and friends.
