Lula Phillips

July 14, 1940 — April 13, 2018

Mrs. Lula Mae Wicker Phillips, 77, of Bear Creek, died peacefully Friday, April 13, 2018 at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Joyce – Brady Chapel in Bennett. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Edwin Moore and Dr. Ron Chaney presiding. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Following the cemetery committal, the family will return to the fellowship hall and greet friends and family.

Lula Mae was born in Chatham County, N.C. in 1940, daughter of the late William Jennings Wicker, Sr. and Pauline Stinson Wicker. Lula worked in the secretarial and book keeping field for many years with Chatham Foods and Country Forrest Manor. She served faithfully as the church librarian at Fall Creek Baptist Church and was known to reward the youth with candy and treats. She loved decorating and caring for her home inside and out and was revered by friends and family as an excellent cook, sharing many meals with them in her home or enjoying an evening out with them at a nice restaurant. She and her husband Earl, having no children of their own, parented many nieces and nephews throughout their life together, making a parental impression on their young hearts and minds that will stand for years to come. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother William Jennings “Bill” Wicker , Jr. . She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Earl Phillips of the home; sisters, Betty W. Cockman of Siler City, N.C. and Doris W. Brady and husband Winfred of Bennett, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews, a loving church family and a host of family and friends.

Flowers are accepted, however donations may be made to the Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Winfred Brady 128 Winfred Brady Road   Bennett, N.C.  27208.
