James Caviness

Mr. James Chesley “J.C.” Caviness, 87, of Bennett, N.C., died Friday, January 20, 2017. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, January 22, at Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett, N.C, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, at Beulah Baptist Church with Dr. Neal Jackson and Rev. Robert Kidd presiding.

J.C. was born in Chatham County on January 1, 1930, to parents William Wesley Caviness and Annie Jones Caviness. Working as a heating and air technician for the Department of Defense for 20 years at Ft. Bragg, he received several awards for his expertise. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. He had a great love for the outdoors, fishing being one of his favorite past times. The time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, was his greatest joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret Creason Caviness, along with children James Keith Caviness and wife Pat of New Hill, N.C., Joel E. Caviness and wife Bonnie of Bennett, N.C., and Karen C. Mann and husband Len of Graham, N.C. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren Rizzuto and husband Jason, Trent Caviness and wife Brittany, Tristan Mann, Virginia Caviness, step grandchild Lee Mann and wife Karla, and sister Rheba McKenzie of Greensboro, N.C., along with a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Randolph Hospice House – 446 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203, and the Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund – 8454 Howard Mill Rd., Bennett, NC 27208.
