Billy Phillips

Billy Joe Phillips age 85, of Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at his home. He was a Chatham County native, and was the son of the late Burkett & Nannie Grubbs Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife- Edna Cook Phillips; Daughter- Cheryl Pettit; Son- Donald Ray ”Bub” Phillips; Brother –Russell Phillips; Sisters- Allene Watts, Ethelda Stumpf, and Jane Phillips; Grandsons- Shawn Phillips & Phillip Pettit;

Mr. Phillips was a retired mail carrier for 30 years for the US Post Office in Bear Creek.  He was a farmer, and loved to bird, and rabbit hunt, as well as flounder gigging.  He was Chairman of the ASCS of Chatham County for 10 years, and Chairman of the Chatham County Farm Service Agency for 40 years. He was a member of Tyson’s Creek Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, and served on the building committee. Mr. Phillips loved his family and especially his Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 11am at Tyson’s Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek, with Rev. Roger Thomas & Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 20, 2015, from 6-8pm at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham Street, in Bennett.

He is survived by his Sons-Mike Phillips & wife Margaret of Ramseur, Dennis J. Phillips & wife Judy of Bear Creek, and Terry Phillips & wife Sherrie of Bear Creek; Brothers- Gary Phillips of High Falls; Sisters- Berta Lou Scott & husband Hoyt of Bear Creek, and Sue Ann Farlow & husband Frank of Raleigh; Grandchildren-9; Great-Grandchildren-11; Great-Great grandchildren-1.
